I don't know why scammers have to target good christians? How could God even allow them to do this to his children. Usually they are widows, had loss of someone recently. Usually no photo or false one, very poetic when they talk. They do nothing but undermine christians. Any suspicions on anyone report them as they should not troll on this site.

God allows many things in this world , it's up to us to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.

Many people think christians are well let put it think way , they do not think we are to smart.  Believe it or not many of the so called intellectuals realy believe we are ignorant .  How little they know.

Scammers target everyone.  The fact that you're a christian is completely irrelevant to them.  I receive an e-mail telling me that I've won the Soccer Pools in London at least once a month - the author of that e-mail wouldn't know whether I'm a christian or not!  S/he just wants my identity and banking details.

Because 'scammers' know that christians will fall for anything, we are looking for the quick fix, and we are 'carnally' minded.

Just mention God and we fall all over ourselves to get into it, quote a verse and it's "where do I sign".
After all, 'oh this man is anointed', well if he is saved he is anointed, all believers are anointed.
But we are more interested in anointing than CHARACTER, more interested in SIGNS than the word.

One who is truly a son [mature] will not accept anything because it is from someone who seems to know how to use the word. Even Jesus did not fall for that 'trick', satan can use the word more that we can,
he can use the 'word' to put you in bondage, he can use the 'word' to create fear, he can use the 'word' to hinder you from obeying God.

He cannot use the 'word' to bring you life, he cannot use the 'word' to set you free, he cannot use the 'word' to give you the 'fear'[awesomeness] of God.

But man can use God's word and God's giftings for their own personal agenda, then the devil uses your offense when the agenda is exposed to turn you away from God. Woe to him who picks up an offense.

John

Maybe....  [thinking]

Perhaps it is because Christians are nice and like to help people in need.
I kinda think this last idea.  [thumbup]

To answer the original question though: Scammer will target anyone they can get their hands on. They do not descriminate.

They enjoy dating sites (not Christian sites) particularly because there are some lonely folks that might latch on to someone that is friendly. Once someone gets their hopes up that a particular person might be that someone special they tend to be willing to send money rather than have their hopes dashed.

A lonely person will sometimes do things that someone else may not. Lonely is painful. Escaping painful loneliness is a goal for many, many people. And rightfully so.

hat's TRUE Clark.

I agree with everything you have said.

But and here is where the rub comes in or the separation.

Christians have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them, and one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is the gift of Discernment. We cannot go around thinking we are just like everybody else when we are told to be Holy, Holy means in the end 'different'.

But and I include myself in this, seldom do we consult the Lord, or better still know His word and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. We get caught up in the moment, and one of the things that American Marketing does is desensitize us. Oh this offer/discount is ONLY available while you are here, leave and you will miss it.

Of course the church does the same thing, if you give a $100 offerning, while the 'anointing' is here God will multiply it 100 times.

It's all about catching 'our' thoughts of wow now I can get out of debt.

Here is a story about a different type of scam.  This small church was looking for a new pastor to replace the retired one.  This total fraud applied and gave a totally fake background but slung "God words" around freely and tickled the ears of the congregation with sample sermons.  The elders did not check up on the background which they would have discovered was schools and seminaries never attended and ministries which were wrecked into ceasing to exist (caused by the pastor applicant.)

The church has declined in membership until they may go under.

That is interestings. Why did he do that? Was he skimming money out of the offering or something? What was his point?

Yes sir. Agreed.

Now, here is another rub... continuation of your rub...

Lonely people, even with this: "the Holy Spirit dwelling in them" are sometimes hurting so much that they will deliberately turn off that discernment. They don't want to hear the word "no."

I've been doing this since 1992. Some members here were even born after SCN got born. (hmmm... I'm getting kinda up there....  Huh? )  Anyway.... I've seen it all. Really.

I've seen the most noble, honorable, God-fearing, faithful people get blinded by loneliness.
It is pretty real. I won't go into details, but you can just imagine.

And, what do you mean about that $100?  You talking about the scammers that say send $100 so you can get rich? You talking about things like The "Green Prosperity Prayer Hankie Will Make You RICH!" ?
He is on TV every morning. See him all the time.

Clark.

Thanks, I agree, no  need to say anymore, I always understood this man was an evangelist, now see he is an apostle. Now I don't know what to say, just this stuff is distressing.

It has always concerned mt that ministries say if you send me a donation I will send you my
book free of charge. No you are buying a book, they know that if they don't give you something
then you won't give an offfering.

The church has to stop this nonsense.

Give because the Lord told you to give, and NO OTHER reason.

John

:(Well, when I saw this question, it brought up a whole lot of emotions for me. I have been the victim of a romance scammer. We met on a Christian site (not this one!) and he seemed to be everything he claimed he was. But he was so smooth and such a good liar it is unbelievable! Today, I was on a website called romancescam.com where I found an article about what makes a good victim for these people. And victims typically aren't stupid, or uneducated. The one thing they ARE is good, giving people who always want to do the right thing. When I got done reading the article, I cried a bit with a sense of relief; I really wasn't stupid. I fit the profile they described to a "T".
As far as why does God "allow" things like this to happen to Christians? Anyone read John Elredge's "Walking With God? Amazing book. I only wish I had read it prior to meeting my scammer. Maybe I would have had my eyes open and my ears more attuned to listening for God. We must recognize that every day Satan is on the prowl. It's not that God allows these things; it's more that Satan is causing the upheaval in an attempt to derail our faith. In my case, my life has not always been the most righteous. I have only recently returned to our God and have been like a blind person who has just regained their sight!  I realized what it is that was missing from my life. I love that line in Amazing Grace.....fits my life perfectly. So, I'm sure that this man was sent by Satan to try and destroy my faith by making me think "Why, God? Why did you let this happen?" Well, did I ask God about this man? Did I ask was he the one I should pursue a relationship with (I was talking to two others at the time)? No. When he started asking me for money, did I pray to God to give me discernment? No. Did I wonder what that odd nauseating feeling in my stomach was? Huh?(In reading Walking With God, I learned that God "speaks" to us in many forms. I concluded that one of those forms is our gut instincts. He made us; so our gut instincts are something He gave us. So we should use them!).
For anyone that's interested, there is another website that may be useful for possibly checking someone out on that you are suspicious of. It is called scamwarners.com. I posted my story (complete with name and user name of my scammer) on there today.
No, it's not just Christians these people target; it's anyone with a kind, giving heart. So my advice is this; learn how to use the "radar" God gave us. Ask Him about everyone that you consider as a potential partner. And then listen for what He is telling you! It's hard, because we all want to do things "our way". But trust me, been there, done that!
Sorry this was kind of long...you can tell it hit a nerve, huh? [thinking]
God Bless you all! [thumbup] [pray]

I think that some of these scammers consider themselves Christians and believe that since we live in a non third world country, that they are entitled to take advantage of us. I recently had a scammer try to involve me in a money laundering scam, when I joked about Gods sense of humor he got very angry and accused me of having the devil in me, Irony! Anyhow there are several Good sites that keep tabs and albums of some of this people, I recently have busted two of these people on Christian dating sites, because I remembered there pictures from the romancescammer albums if you think you have been or are being scammed by one of these people please log on to this site and look in the album, they also have links to support groups, but most of all please take your time and get to know someone before sharing your personal info. if they are mature in the Lord and his word they will understand and respect your wishes.  best of luck to everyone and Gob Bless my Christian Brothers and sisters.
