I opened to this passage tonight.
Psalms 147
New Living Translation
1Praise the LORD!
How good to sing praises to our God!
How delightful and how fitting!
2The LORD is rebuilding Jerusalem
and bringing the exiles back to Israel.
3He heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds.
4He counts the stars
and calls them all by name.
5How great is our Lord! His power is absolute!
His understanding is beyond comprehension!
6The LORD supports the humble,
but he brings the wicked down into the dust.
7Sing out your thanks to the LORD;
sing praises to our God with a harp.
8He covers the heavens with clouds,
provides rain for the earth,
and makes the grass grow in mountain pastures.
9He gives food to the wild animals
and feeds the young ravens when they cry.
10He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse
or in human might.
11No, the LORD’s delight is in those who fear him,
those who put their hope in his unfailing love.
12Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13For he has strengthened the bars of your gates
and blessed your children within your walls.
14He sends peace across your nation
and satisfies your hunger with the finest wheat.
15He sends his orders to the world—
how swiftly his word flies!
16He sends the snow like white wool;
he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.
17He hurls the hail like stones.a
Who can stand against his freezing cold?
18Then, at his command, it all melts.
He sends his winds, and the ice thaws.
19He has revealed his words to Jacob,
his decrees and regulations to Israel.
20He has not done this for any other nation;
they do not know his regulations.
Praise the LORD!
Footnotes:
a 147:17 Hebrew like bread crumbs.

My son, if you will receive my sayings and treasure my commandments within you, make your ear attentive to wisdom, incline your heart to understanding; For if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. I do feel there will be different interpretations of many things as we are imperfect and are limited by faulty glasses till we get to heaven. At times also we may think God is telling us something(grey area type) and we may be wrong. That is why forgiveness and grace are needed when we differ. I truly wish at times I knew his will on some simple things that there is no scripture on. Also misinterpretations of scripture happen. Of course I believe in tongues as I use them myself. But talking about issues not in the scripture.

Bless your heart dear sis. I do agree with you that forgiveness and grace are needed when we differ, as well as the speaking of truth in love. I'd like to think that we watch each others backs, we love each other  by correcting, exhorting, serving each other with the Gifts the Holy Spirit ministers through us, with.

This reminds me of when my son was learning to walk. He did fall on his 'journeys', sometimes badly. I believe in him and entrust responsibilities/some decision making to him, even though there are times he misses it. When he's inclined towards obeying me, I know, when not, I know too. How much more our Father? He leads/shepherds us. We, the led, don't have to be perfect but are being perfected. Father sees your heart and the motives within.

I believe that God does speak to you. As his children, I think that God believes in our decision making over some matters and the use of common sense too. We can learn to discern the spirits and go by his peace in us as well. We also have our sisters/brothers, who can offer counselling. We can also trust that as our hearts are girded towards obeying Father, should we miss it, he'll correct and re-direct us. A heart that is inclined towards obedience is different from one which isn't/seeks its own ways. We obey him because we love him. We obey him, even when our doing so may not make sense to anyone else.

I believe God can talk to us based on our relationships with him, concerning matters which are abt us. He can/does reciprocate on a daily basis as we unto him too, I find. In every healthy relationship there is communication. Infact he pursues relentlessly, for a good while even when he's ignored. It's true some things that are based on our daily walk with him may be different from the universal truths written in the Bible. For example, if he calls my name and tells me stuff abt  my health or if he jokes abt something personal, relational, it isn't misleading or anything of that sort. If I'd necessarily seek to see whether the Word could verify what I described, I may find out that his attributes show that he cares and loves, he's a personal God, a friend, a Father, a communicator. Does this sound like him? Yes. And my every sinew would know it -- only, I have to choose to obey and yield to him.

I must say that there have been times where I missed it. I'm not proud of this at all, although I revel in the fact that even though he has graciously given us power, strengths by his Spirit, I'm weak and he is strong. His grace is truly sufficient, for power is made perfect in weakness. I receive mercy/grace and at times the consequences/the discipline/training wasn't pleasant at all but I knew Father would do such because I'm his child. My growth has come abt from good triumphant experiences, mistakes I've made, dying daily in brokenness, trials, persecution and tribulation -- perhaps I couldn't have learned without some of these; perhaps though the negative(which don't originate with God) were meant to destroy me, he uses them for good. Perfect justice is offered only by him, who vindicates his own. I take courage and comfort in the fact that, as long as that Day isn't at hand, there's some growing and maturing to do, as we abide in Christ.

Hold fast onto TRUTH  no matter what JM, no matter what! May his peace abide with you bountifully.

Much love to you,  hugs

For such is God, our God forever and ever; He will guide us until death.(Psl.48:14)

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(Rom. 8:38-39)

"Can you give me a specific reference as to where it actually says that in the Bible?
I know humans say that. But, haven't found a passage that actually says that."

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
II Tim.3:16

As Protestants, we do not recognize heavenly inspiration as coming from ANY OTHER source as the "inspiriation of God" in His REVEALLED Scriptures.  Therefore, we reject tradition, decrees of the Pope, historians, modern day prophets, spirits, visions, etc.  ANYTHING that cannot be CORROBORATED, with THE REVEALLED "word of God" in His Scriptures.  We believe His word to be INSPIRED by God, truly making it "the word of God."  Because we believe His word is infallible, just as God says, IT IS without errancy, and never, ever contadicts itself.  Because of this we can always KNOW, that we can PROVE Scripture WITH Scripture.  Anything outside of His revealled word can find all manner of errancies when comparing it to His revealled word.

As professing believers, we are told that we are to live by faith, which INCLUDES receiving the Word of God AS the Word of GOD, even when we don't always understand it in this life.  For we are asked, "Who are you to question God?"

ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God...

and is PROFITABLE...

for DOCTRINE,

for REPROOF,

for CORRECTION,

for INSTRUCTION in righteousness...Why?

"...that the man of God "MAY BE COMPLETE", "thoroughly" EQUIPTED for EVERY good work."

Needing no other source from either the physical or spiritual world with all its deceiving demons.  We must trust in His REVEALLED word ONLY.  Anything added to it, must support and corroborate with it.  There is no new revelation given since His revealled word, which the church has had in their possession for two thousand years.

And so knowing this, God tells us...

17 The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, the true Christians) say, Come! And let him who is listening say, Come! And let everyone come who is thirsty [who is painfully conscious of his need [d]of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened]; and whoever [earnestly] desires to do it, let him come, take, appropriate, and drink the water of Life without cost.(I)

18 I [personally solemnly] warn everyone who listens to the statements of the prophecy [the [e]predictions and the consolations and admonitions pertaining to them] in this book: If anyone shall add anything to them, God will add and lay upon him the plagues (the afflictions and the calamities) that are recorded and described in this book.

19 And if anyone cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this prophecy [these [f]predictions relating to Christ's kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness (purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in this book.

20 He Who gives this warning and affirms and testifies to these things says, Yes (it is true). [Surely] I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily). Amen (so let it be)! Yes, come, Lord Jesus!

21 The grace (blessing and favor) of the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be [g]with all the saints (God's holy people, [h]those set apart for God, to be, as it were, exclusively His). Amen (so let it be)!
(Rev.22:17-21; Amp. Bible)

By application, this applies to His entire word - The Holy Bible
God's people possess His Own Spirit to lead them into all truth.  The apostate does not have this guarantee.
If the Lord thought we needed further revelation for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, it would have been included in His revealled word.  But with what He has given us, we are told that - the man of God "MAY BE COMPLETE", "thoroughly" EQUIPTED for EVERY good work."  The genuine believer takes His word into their hearts, as they hunger and thirst after righteousness.

Can you give me a specific reference as to where it actually says that in the Bible?
I know humans say that. But, haven't found a passage that actually says that.

A couple of observations:

1. Seems to me that people that believe in the gifts are in good company along with Paul and the Apostles and the Saints of yore. Dissing on those that believe that God works today the same way that God worked in prior days is dissing on the very founders of the Church.

2. Are you aware that the Bible itself doesn't call itself the "Word of God."
We call it that.  But it seems to me that by doing that we are doing exactly what Mandal says we should not do: Make the Bible say something that it doesn't actually say.

There are some thots to ponder over your breakfast yogart.

ANYTHING that cannot be CORROBORATED, with THE REVEALLED "word of God" in His Scriptures.

I wish to add in support of Mandal's thoughts...

The Bible as we know it is based on Jesus' example of comparing His Gospel message with the Historical Hebrew writings we now call the Old Testament.

The theological writings of the current Protestant Bible are therefore based exclusively on messages that Jesus himself corroborates.

There are many many books and documents reflecting what Jeusus might have said or what Christianity really is about... but if they can't be corroborated with Jesus Words and thereby in context of the OT authors that Jesus Himself references... then the works are held suspect.

We often say that scripture interprets scripture... which is true.   But why can we trust what we currently have written in our Bible?

We can trust it as inspired because Jesus interpreted it for us.  The NT authors of our current Bible quoted Jesus and articulated Jesus message.  None of the Gospel writters offer up their own opinions of what Jesus said, they just reflect what Jesus said and the context of many of Jesus adventures.

St. Paul offers more opinion within his letters to guide the early churches and we embrace these opinions as inspired, considering that God directly sent Paul on his mission to the gentiles.  And in this, St. Paul remains consistent in following Jesus example of reference Jesus words in context of the Old Testament writings.

It is hard to say that the NT books are not inspired by God when the authors pretty much simply reference Jesus own words.  And when Jesus is the one corroborating His message with OT references, it is hard to say that the OT He refrences and the NT documents reflecting His words are not inspired and therefore accurate.

What we can do is take other writings by other people, compare them with what Jesus said as corroborated with OT prophecies, and determine if they are true.

And... after 2000 years, and the challenges of the Church and of the World, the current Protestant Bible has withstood inumerable tests.  Roman Catholics include the Apocripha books but they also place them in a secondary role to the Gospels that we all as Christians embrace as true.

It is funny, maybe not so funny, that the dominant Christian denominations can't agree on the specific order and numbering of the 10 Commandments.  However, the interesting thing is that we all embrace the Gospels based on Jesus' words as the cornerstone to understanding the Gospel and measure the inspired veracity of other books of the Bible.

So what's really important in all this?

Jesus Words interpret His own Gospel message in context of the appropriate Hebrew prophecies.  This basic example set by Jesus is how we determined the collection of written works we embrace in our Bible book.

If we exclude a certain work it always because some aspect of that work, while it may parallel or enhance Biblical text, offers no direct corroboration or offers nothing new to the current texts.

We don't include our Creeds or our Confessions in our Bible.  We don't include the writtings of famous authors or evangelists.  Neither do we unclude all the old Hebrew religious texts, nor all the writings of the Gospel authors or St. Paul.

This throws off a lot of Religious scholars, especially secular authors, because they always want to interpret Christianity within the context of all the documents and writtings they have available.  And resist throwing out any contrary texts.

We Christians, however, are quick to separate text we cannont directly corroborate with the words attributed as direct quotes or references of Jesus Himself.

Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.(Isa. 55:7)

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, 'Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.(Rev. 12:10, 11)

I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which you have given me, that they may be one even as we are. That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that You sent me.
