It's just the nature of our gender, which God created in us. Men are created to "CONQUER!" Women are created to............take...... ......their............t ime. Aren't we thankful, God made us in this way, and not the other way around? :O) Of course, I speak in GENERAL terms, for sadly, this certainly isn't true with everyone! I'm reminded of an amusing example. Generally , when a man goes shopping with his wife, and she wants to stop by the dress store to buy a dress, she may try on 6 to 10 dresses. The man might go along with trying on 2 or 3, or maybe even 4. But by that time, he is ready to grab the first dress he sees, and get outta-there as he "conquers" the situation, while the women finds full enjoyment in browsing through all the new fashions, and "tasting" all of them, to find the perfect one.

But I'm reminded of God's words that covers a multitude of problems with relationships - "Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee." Problems, or affliction of all kinds may come, but for the believer who abides in God's word, there will be peace in any situation, even in death when it’s imminent, and for the one who cares for his Lady, he sits back with amusement as she runs to and fro among all the fashions.  He has learned to "conquer" his natural tendancy of conquering, for his loved one.  For Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee...

When romance becomes mixed with building friendships, it is no longer a friendship you are building. And if it is discovered God does not intend the two people to be together for life, the heartache will only be worse.

Nice post Mandal.  Being considerate of other people and their desires is important in a friendship or more romantic relationship.  Failed romances do hurt even when we try to guard our heart as we are getting to know another person as a friend.  It hurts on so many levels - rejection, the loss of a potential dream, the inability to continue enjoying that person's company.  Thank the Lord that he cares and is there to comfort us when we feel those losses.  Sometimes he sends some good friends to comfort us too.

Re: Shopping.  Not all ladies enjoy it.  Sometimes it's enjoyable for me, but often it's frustrating.  When I go shopping for clothing, I prefer to be alone, because I don't want to bore anyone while I'm hunting for a nice outfit.

Window shopping is a whole other matter.  For instance, there is a lovely area near where I live that has some beautiful old architectural buildings, shops, restaurants, and a lovely river.  I enjoy "shopping" in this area.  Only occasionally do I actually buy anything.  The main draw is the chance to have a walk in a lovely area with a friend.  The man who needs to conquer can bring along a camera and shoot some lovely photos.

Thanks for your imput.  I was trying to relay some humor that I heard Gary Smalley (a Christian psycologist) use in one of his videos on marriage.  I had four videos of his back in the '80's.  I found it very ironic that my wife took them with her when she hit the road for another man.  There must have been thousands in attendance there to see Smalley.  But my example wasn't very accurate coz I couldn't remember it correctly.  However, he clearly did show very humoursly how a man is a conquorer, and how a woman takes her time by nature.  Of course, there are exceptions, but this is quite true overall.

The last paragraph was really unrelated to the rest of it, but included it for the sake of the young adults here especially, as well as anyone in their single state.

Yes; I remember reading some things that Gary and Greg Smalley wrote about 10 years ago.  They were relationship experts as I recall.

Never heard of Greg.  He must be a relative.  I wonder if Smalley is still around?

Greg is Gary's son.  They have co-authored books together.  Greg and his wife Erin are also relationship experts.  Check out their website smalleymarriage.com
